North Wales Runners Train for London Marathon to Support Hope House Tŷ Gobaith Hospice
North Wales Runners Train for London Marathon for Hospice

A dedicated team of twenty runners from across North Wales are undertaking rigorous training regimes as they prepare to take on the iconic TCS London Marathon. Their mission extends far beyond personal achievement, focusing on raising crucial funds and awareness for Hope House Tŷ Gobaith children's hospices, which provide essential care for children living with life-threatening conditions.

Running in Memory and Solidarity

Among the determined fundraisers are individuals with profoundly personal connections to the Conwy Valley-based hospice. Rebecca Jones and Leon Darby from the Abergele area are running in memory of their late nephew, Finley Edwards, who tragically lost his battle with leukaemia in October 2020 at just five years old.

"We are both excited to take on the London Marathon together and to raise as much awareness and donations as possible for Tŷ Gobaith," said Rebecca. "They provide such vital care. Every step we take will be in memory of our late nephew, Finley Edwards."

Staff Member on a Personal Mission

Manon John, an Activities Support Worker at the Tŷ Gobaith hospice in Anglesey, is another participant who witnesses the charity's impact daily. She is running the 26.2-mile course to support the very families and children she works with.

"I’m running the London Marathon for Tŷ Gobaith because I see, every day, the courage of children and the love of families facing tough times," Manon explained. "It’s to try and help make sure no family has to face the toughest times alone. The children are at the heart of everything we do."

A Wider Team with Deep Community Ties

The North Wales contingent includes several other passionate individuals committed to the cause:

  • Nia Golding from Towyn highlighted her family's long-standing connection, noting her father helped build the hospice gardens and her mother volunteered, while her daughter now works on the fundraising team.
  • Michelle Roberts from Colwyn Bay expressed tremendous pride in running for the hospice after a visit last year revealed the true extent of their compassionate care.
  • Tom Williams from Abergele stated that the hospice's work reminds him how precious his own daughter is, motivating his family to support the charity's efforts in providing care and comfort.

This collective effort underscores the deep community roots and emotional resonance of Hope House Tŷ Gobaith's work across North Wales. The runners' dedication promises to bring significant support to the hospice, ensuring it can continue its vital services for children and families during their most challenging times.
