My Sight Notts Launches Firewalk & 5K for Sight Loss Support
Notts Charity Sets 2026 Firewalk and 5K Fundraisers

A leading Nottinghamshire charity has unveiled two major fundraising challenges for early 2026, aiming to rally community support for the thousands of local people living with sight loss.

Walking on Fire for a Cause

My Sight Notts Charity Firewalk is set to take place on Friday, 13 February 2026 at Nottingham Rugby Club in Lady Bay. This daring event invites participants aged 16 and over to walk barefoot across a bed of hot embers. A professionally led training session will precede the walk, focusing on techniques to overcome fear and build confidence. The charity emphasises that the event is fully inclusive for people with sight loss, and guides are welcome to walk alongside participants if required.

Registration costs £30, with a minimum sponsorship target of £120. As an added incentive, the first 15 people to sign up will receive a complimentary ticket to watch Nottingham Rugby Club play Cambridge later that same evening, with discounted tickets on offer for friends and family.

A Relaxed and Inclusive 5K Challenge

For those seeking a less intense but equally impactful challenge, the 5K My Way event will be held on Sunday, 22 March 2026 at Rushcliffe Country Park. This is designed as a fully inclusive community day, welcoming walkers, runners, wheelchair users, families with pushchairs, and even dogs. Participants are encouraged to complete the 5K route at their own pace, whether by walking, jogging, running, rolling, or strolling.

Entry fees are set at £15 for adults, £8 for children, or £40 per family. The minimum sponsorship target for this event is £50, and anyone who raises this amount will receive a free My Sight Notts water bottle.

Supporting a Vital Local Mission

With an estimated 38,000 people in Nottinghamshire affected by sight loss, My Sight Notts works to ensure nobody has to face this challenge alone. Funds raised from these events will be crucial in expanding the charity's vital services, raising public awareness, and connecting more individuals to practical and emotional support networks.

Michael Conroy, chief executive of My Sight Notts, said: “Whether it’s defying superstition and walking on fire or taking part in our inclusive 5K, everyone who joins in is helping us reach people with sight loss across Nottinghamshire when they need us most.”

Places for both the Firewalk and 5K My Way are now open but limited. Those interested in registering or seeking more information can visit the official charity website at www.mysightnotts.org.uk.
