Opticians Raise £1,200+ for LOROS Hospice in Winter Drive

The winter season has delivered a heartwarming success story for Edmonds & Slatter Opticians, with the team achieving a significant fundraising milestone of £1,220.72 for LOROS Hospice. The independent opticians officially presented the proceeds during a special cheque handover ceremony, marking a festive period filled with community spirit and generosity.

A Festive Fundraising Effort

Throughout the festive season, staff members across all Edmonds & Slatter practices enthusiastically participated in a diverse range of fundraising initiatives. These creative activities included popular Christmas jumper days, winter raffles held in conjunction with local Christmas light switch-on events, and the collection of voluntary donations from patients following complimentary glasses repairs and adjustments. The collective effort demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting a vital local cause.

Strengthening Community Bonds

The cheque was formally presented to Laura Roberts, community fundraiser at LOROS Hospice, who expressed sincere gratitude for the ongoing support from the independent opticians and their loyal patients. Tim Cole, director at Edmonds & Slatter, emphasised the essential role that local businesses play in fostering community engagement. He stated: “As independent opticians, it’s really important for us to engage with the community, and all of the team at Edmonds & Slatter have volunteered their free time for our charity events.”

A Renewed and Meaningful Partnership

In a move that further solidifies the connection between the two organisations, Edmonds & Slatter Opticians are proud to reaffirm their partnership with LOROS Hospice by naming it their Charity of the Year for the remainder of 2026. This renewed collaboration carries special significance, as both entities are celebrating notable anniversaries. LOROS reached its 40th anniversary in 2025, while Edmonds & Slatter are celebrating their own 40th year in business throughout 2026.

Linda Southin, operations manager at Edmonds & Slatter, shared the inspiration behind continuing this impactful partnership: “We’re proud to support LOROS as our Charity of the Year. It’s an incredibly worthwhile cause, deeply rooted in the local community and truly deserving of our backing. With LOROS celebrating its 40th anniversary last year and Edmonds and Slatter marking our own 40th this year, the timing felt perfectly aligned. It’s a meaningful opportunity to revisit one of our original charity partners and focus our fundraising efforts where they can make a real impact.”

The Vital Work of LOROS Hospice

LOROS Hospice provides free, high-quality care and support to terminally ill patients and their families across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland. The hospice's ability to continue delivering this essential service relies heavily on community fundraising initiatives and the sustained generosity of local supporters and businesses.

The winter fundraising achievement stands as a testament to the power of local collaboration and shared commitment to making a positive difference.
