OSJCT Homes Celebrate Sobell House's 50 Years with Events

The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT) is proud to support Sobell House as part of its 50 for 50 campaign, celebrating five decades of compassionate care. Across the Oxfordshire region, OSJCT homes have marked this milestone with a series of meaningful fundraising and celebratory events involving residents, families, and team members.

Choir Performance at Marston Court

Beth Marsh, director of fundraising from Sobell House, visited Marston Court and Westgate House on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. At Marston Court, a 50-strong choir came together to sing well-loved classics celebrating friendship and care, followed by a traditional afternoon tea. Sharon Fenn, home manager, said: “We were absolutely blown away by the incredible turnout for the 50 for 50 celebrations, marking 50 fantastic years of Sobell House. We decided to bring together a 50-strong choir to sing some much-loved classics, including You’ve Got a Friend in Me by Randy Newman and Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles. Marston Court loves a good sing-song, and what better way to combine our passion for singing with supporting such a wonderful cause. Thank you to everyone who attended, and a very special thank you to the Oxford City Singers for helping make the day so memorable.”

Mural Creation at Westgate House

Meanwhile, at Westgate House, residents created a striking '50'-shaped mural decorated with hand-crafted oven-clay flowers to mark Sobell House’s 50th anniversary. The flowers symbolised care, compassion, and remembrance. Daniela Midwinter, home manager at Westgate House, commented: “Our residents wanted to create something truly special to celebrate 50 years of Sobell House, so they made a ‘50’ mural decorated with hand-crafted flowers made from oven clay. Flowers represent care, compassion, and remembrance, which felt a fitting way to mark such an important milestone. We were delighted to welcome the Sobell House team to Westgate House to collect the mural — you really made our afternoon.”
