Persimmon Donates £1,000 to Trowbridge Dementia Club

A Wiltshire housebuilder has demonstrated its commitment to the community by supporting a Trowbridge-based group that assists individuals living with dementia. Persimmon Homes Wessex presented a £1,000 cheque to the Mill Street Club, which operates in partnership with Beyond Dementia. The developer decided to contribute after discovering the club's efforts during Trowbridge Town Council's civic dinner earlier this year.

About the Mill Street Club

The Mill Street Club is open from Tuesday to Friday, providing companionship and activities for people with dementia in West Wiltshire. Each day, up to 11 members are supported by experienced support workers, volunteers, and even friendly canine visitors. The club features a thoughtfully designed space that includes a snooker table and an indoor garden area for members to enjoy.

Community Champions Scheme

This donation was made through Persimmon's Community Champions scheme, which allocates £700,000 annually to good causes across Britain. Persimmon has a strong local presence with active building sites in nearby Chippenham, Warminster, and Hilperton. The housebuilder also recently secured planning consent for the first phase of the major new Ashton Park development in Trowbridge.

Pauline Fletcher, from Persimmon Homes, said: "With a major, long-running site due to start imminently in Trowbridge, it made sense for us to show our support for a local group that provides a really valuable service. When we heard of the Mill Street Club through the Town Council, we were determined to make sure we could give them a donation via our Community Champions fund. They do excellent work, and we hope this money can help them maintain their offer in western Wiltshire."

Sharon Cooper, the club manager, expressed her delight at being selected for the funding. "We are over the moon to have been selected by Persimmon Homes for their Community Champions fund," she said. "Funding such as this has a real impact and will go a long way in helping us continue to provide vital support for members of our Mill Street Day Club. It has also provided a valuable opportunity to raise more awareness of our services and highlight the ongoing fundraising we rely on each year."
