Channel Rotary's Wine & Wisdom Quiz Night Raises £2,000 for Local Charities in Folkestone
More than 140 quiz fans came together at Harvey Grammar School in Folkestone for Channel Rotary's annual Wine & Wisdom quiz night, raising approximately £2,000 for local charities. This much-loved event, which has been running for over 30 years, was a complete sell-out this year, with 36 teams participating in the friendly competition.
A Fun-Filled Evening of Quizzing and Community Spirit
Contestants tackled a wide mix of questions covering topics from science and sport to general knowledge, all while enjoying a ploughman's supper and a glass of wine included in the ticket price. Quizmaster Derek Harris kept the evening lively and light-hearted, with plenty of friendly banter as teams debated some of the trickier answers. One memorable question that sparked discussion was about which king in a pack of cards does not have a moustache, adding to the fun atmosphere.
New Winners Emerge in Close Competition
Although familiar teams often top the leaderboard, this year saw a new winning team take first place. Nichola and Roger Earle, along with Garry Smith and Mike Gerken, secured victory by just two points, showcasing the competitive yet amicable nature of the event.
Positive Feedback and Future Plans
Channel Rotary President Colin Tomson expressed his delight, saying: "It was a fantastic evening with excellent support and a really fun atmosphere - what an easy and enjoyable way to raise funds for charity." With such a successful turnout, many participants were already asking about next year's event as they headed home. Channel Rotary has confirmed that the quiz will return again in 2026, continuing its long-standing tradition of community engagement and charitable support.
