Ribena Maker Launches £2.5m Community Fund for 80th Anniversary
Ribena Maker's £2.5m Fund for 80th Anniversary

The manufacturer behind iconic British drinks Ribena and Lucozade has unveiled a substantial £2.5 million community investment initiative to commemorate eight decades of operation at its Forest of Dean facility. Suntory Beverage & Food Great Britain & Ireland (SBF GB&I) revealed its ambitious 'Together for Good' programme, which aims to generate meaningful positive change within local communities throughout the UK and Ireland.

Substantial Investment for Local Impact

The comprehensive funding scheme represents a significant commitment to social responsibility, with the entire £2.5 million pledged for distribution by the year 2030. The initiative will launch with an initial £250,000 allocation during its first operational year, demonstrating immediate support for community development. Notably, half of this inaugural year's funding will be specifically directed toward charities and community projects operating within the Forest of Dean region, ensuring substantial local benefit from this corporate initiative.

Innovative Match Funding Approach

SBF GB&I has developed an innovative match funding model to maximise the impact of its investment. Through this approach, eligible non-profit organisations can secure up to £10,000 per project via the established Crowdfunder UK platform. The company will then match public contributions, effectively doubling the financial resources available for each successful initiative. This collaborative funding strategy encourages community participation while amplifying the reach of corporate support.

Eligibility and Project Criteria

Local Gloucestershire charities, social enterprises and community groups situated near the company's Coleford manufacturing base are being actively encouraged to submit proposals for consideration. Successful applications will need to demonstrate alignment with SBF GB&I's corporate purpose of "inspiring the brilliance of life by creating rich experiences for people in harmony with nature."

Eligible initiatives may include various community-focused projects such as:

  • Regeneration and enhancement of green spaces and natural environments
  • Programmes supporting mental and physical wellbeing within communities
  • Educational projects connecting young people with nature and environmental awareness
  • Initiatives fostering social inclusion through cultural, creative or sporting activities

Leadership Perspectives on Community Commitment

Karl Ottomar, Supply Chain Director at SBF GB&I, commented on the fund's establishment: "This initiative stems from a straightforward ambition to support the remarkable individuals and programmes already shaping the local community in the Forest of Dean. By placing people and their innovative ideas at the centre of positive change, we're providing the financial backing necessary to create tangible, lasting impact."

Matt Bishop, Member of Parliament for the Forest of Dean, welcomed the announcement: "As the Coleford factory celebrates its 80th anniversary, this fund demonstrates a longstanding commitment to our community. I strongly encourage local charities and community groups to engage with the Crowdfunder platform and propose projects that can deliver genuine, meaningful improvements to our area."

Continuous Application Process

The funding programme will operate on a year-round basis through the Crowdfunder platform, providing continuous opportunities for community organisations to apply. Comprehensive details regarding eligibility criteria, application processes and project timelines are available through the platform, ensuring transparency and accessibility for all potential applicants.

Councillor Nick Penny, Mayor of Coleford, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative: "SBF GB&I's community fund represents tremendously welcome news for our town. This substantial investment will empower numerous grassroots organisations in Coleford to strengthen community wellbeing, enhance our local environment and enrich community life for all residents."
