Richard MacRae has launched an inspiring fundraising campaign dedicated to supporting Shoe-Aid, a UK charity that provides footwear to individuals experiencing homelessness and hardship. From now until March 15, every training run he completes will contribute to this cause, which he has personally championed for over ten years.
Organised Running Events Across the Region
The fundraising effort will reach its peak with several organised events in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, featuring multiple 10km runs. These community-focused activities are designed to engage the public and maximise support for Shoe-Aid's mission.
Schedule of Key Events
- Saturday, February 21: A 10km run at Victoria Embankment.
- Sunday, March 8: The Nottingham City Run, starting at Old Market Square.
- Sunday, March 15: A 10km run in Derby, commencing at Pride Park.
The Critical Work of Shoe-Aid
Shoe-Aid operates nationwide to collect and redistribute footwear to those in greatest need. Currently, thousands of men, women, and children across the UK are forced to wear unsafe or unsuitable shoes, which can lead to health issues and diminished dignity.
With an estimated 280,000 people experiencing homelessness in the country, many lack access to proper footwear. By providing practical shoes, Shoe-Aid helps protect physical health, restore personal dignity, and support individuals during periods of crisis and transition.
Richard MacRae's Personal Commitment
Speaking about his challenge, Richard MacRae emphasised the profound impact of Shoe-Aid's work. He stated: “Shoe-Aid is a charity I’ve supported for many years, and I’ve seen the difference something as simple as a pair of shoes can make. This challenge is about raising awareness as well as funds, and making sure more people understand just how important this work is.”
How the Public Can Get Involved
Members of the public are encouraged to support Richard's fundraising efforts in several ways. They can make donations to contribute directly to the cause or attend the scheduled events to show encouragement along the running routes.
All funds raised through this initiative will go directly to Shoe-Aid, supporting their work both locally in communities like Stapleford and nationally across the UK. This ensures that every contribution makes a tangible difference in the lives of those facing homelessness and hardship.
