In a remarkable display of community spirit and physical endurance, two dedicated members of staff from the Loughborough Schools Foundation have made a significant impact by completing the Run Leicester Half Marathon. Their efforts were in support of Menphys, a local charity dedicated to creating equal opportunities for disabled children and young people.
Exceeding the 175 Challenge for a Vital Cause
The fundraising run holds special significance as it coincides with Loughborough High School's 175th anniversary celebrations. As part of the festivities, the school launched a '175 Challenge', encouraging its entire community of staff and pupils to raise £175 each for Menphys. Mrs Donna Tolley, the High School's Assistant Head, and Mr Jacob Locke, Reprographics Lead, Teacher, and Charities Co-Ordinator at Loughborough Grammar School, took this challenge a step further. They ambitiously aimed to raise double the target amount, a goal they both surpassed by a considerable margin, collectively bringing in more than £1,000 for the charity.
Perseverance and Community Support Fuel Success
Prior to the 13.1-mile race, Donna Tolley shared her motivation, stating that Menphys is a "fantastic charity supporting young people with disabilities and their families." She added that every donation, regardless of size, would be a huge motivator during the tough moments of the run. Her dedication paid off, and she successfully crossed the finish line with a time of 02:34.
Jacob Locke achieved an impressive time of 02:08. He expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support, saying, "I’m grateful for the generosity shown by our Foundation community, friends and family. I was surprised to have raised so much, and their support kept me motivated throughout the run."
A Lasting Impact on the Local Community
The successful fundraising campaign does more than just provide financial aid; it inspires. The £1,000 raised will directly support Menphys in its mission to empower disabled children and their families to lead ordinary lives. Furthermore, the achievement sets a powerful example, encouraging other pupils and staff across the Loughborough Schools Foundation to continue their charitable efforts throughout the High School's milestone 175th year.
