Sisters Raise £2,000 for Bronglais Hospital in Memory of Aunt

Two devoted sisters have successfully raised a significant sum exceeding £2,000 for Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth, organising a heartfelt community event to honour the memory of a beloved family member.

A Tribute Through Generosity

Beca and Mali James orchestrated a special coffee morning in September 2025, dedicated to their late aunt, Peta Romaine. The event proved to be a tremendous success, generating a total of £2,061.90 in donations. All proceeds have been generously gifted to the Colorectal Unit at Bronglais Hospital, located in Aberystwyth.

Family and Community Come Together

The fundraising effort was a true family affair, supported by close relatives including Alun Jenkins, Peta's brother-in-law, Shan Jenkins, Peta's sister, and Beca and Mali themselves. They were joined by Nerys Thomas, a dedicated nurse from the BGH Colorectal Unit, highlighting the close connection between the family and the hospital staff.

Motivated by Exceptional Care

Beca and Mali were inspired to give back to the ward as a direct result of the "excellent care" their aunt Peta received during her cancer treatment. In a joint statement, the sisters expressed their gratitude, saying: "We organised a coffee morning in remembrance of our aunty Peta Romaine. We would like to thank Nerys Thomas and the team for all their support. Peta received excellent care."

Charity Acknowledges Outstanding Contribution

Paige Denyer, the fundraising support officer at Hywel Dda Health Charities, which serves as the official charity for the Hywel Dda University Health Board, offered heartfelt thanks for the sisters' initiative. "Thank you to Beca and Mali for their wonderful efforts in raising more than £2,000 for the Colorectal Unit at Bronglais Hospital," she stated.

Denyer emphasised the critical role of community support, adding: "We are very grateful for every donation we receive. Support from our local communities enables us to provide services above and beyond what the NHS can provide in Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion."

This story underscores the powerful impact of local fundraising initiatives and the deep appreciation families hold for NHS staff who provide compassionate care during challenging times.
