A record-breaking charity run has raised more than £47,000 to help provide specialist care for people in the local community. The annual St Clare Hospice 10k saw 534 participants, including wheelchair athletes, take to the roads on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
The popular event is a highlight for local running clubs and continues to draw people from across the county to support the hospice. Runners started at the hospice in Hastingwood and followed a scenic route through the Essex countryside.
The first person to finish the race was Nick Greenwood, who completed the course in 35 minutes and 1 second. He was followed by Stephen Bullough from Bishop Stortford's Running Club and Robert Lowe from Harlow Running & Tri Club.
The money raised is roughly £9,000 more than last year’s total and will fund essential services for patients and their families.
Rosie Brewer said: "This year’s 10k run was a huge success, with 534 participants coming together to raise an incredible £47,000 — around £9,000 more than last year. This could help pay for the cost of running the whole Hospice at Home team for around 23 days, where healthcare assistants offer gentle personal care that helps people feel comfortable and dignified in their final weeks."
The Hospice at Home team provides vital support by helping people stay comfortable in their own surroundings during their final days. Events like this ensure that these specialist teams can continue to offer their services to those who need them most.
