Student's Quiz Night Raises £1,000 for Leicester Homelessness Charity

Lilly Riordan, a dedicated health and social care student at Stamford College in Lincolnshire, has made a significant impact by organising a quiz night in Oakham. The event successfully raised an impressive £1,000 for the Leicester-based charity, The Bridge Homelessness to Hope. Six enthusiastic teams participated in the quiz, contributing to funding the charity's essential core services.

Motivation Behind the Fundraiser

Speaking about her inspiration for the event, Lilly explained: “I wanted to help those struggling in silence and bring people together to support a cause that truly matters. Everyone deserves a safe place to call home and I hope the funds raised will provide meals, essentials, and wider support like mental health services and job training.” Her efforts highlight a strong commitment to community welfare and social justice.

Charity Impact and Recent Statistics

New figures for 2025 reveal the growing need for The Bridge's services. Their Hub services were accessed 19,050 times, marking an 83% increase since 2022. Additionally, the charity has helped 84 individuals secure temporary or permanent accommodation, while 367 guests have improved their income through various support programs. These statistics underscore the critical role of community fundraising in addressing homelessness.

Charity Leadership Applauds Efforts

David Fawcett, chief executive of The Bridge, expressed his gratitude: “We are incredibly grateful to Lilly. Every contribution helps us continue vital services and make a real difference for people experiencing homelessness. We encourage others to get involved and help our community even further.” His words emphasise the importance of volunteerism and local support in tackling social issues.

The success of this quiz night not only provides immediate financial aid but also raises awareness about homelessness, inspiring further community action in the region.
