The Sunshine Fund has announced two significant sponsorship agreements for their participation in this year's Great North Run weekend, marking a major milestone for the long-standing North East children's charity.
Expanding Presence at Iconic Regional Event
Building on two years of dedicated effort to increase their visibility at the iconic Great North Run, The Sunshine Fund is preparing for their most ambitious involvement yet in the 2026 event. As a small charity providing essential support to local families and communities, their participation alongside hundreds of other charitable organisations represents a significant achievement.
Junior and Mini Events Receive Harrison Foundation Backing
On Saturday, September 12th, The Sunshine Fund will return to Newcastle Quayside with a substantial contingent of Junior, Mini, and Mini 50 participants racing across 4km, 1.2km, and 50m courses. These events directly support children living with disabilities, additional needs, and terminal illnesses throughout the region.
The charity has confirmed that their Junior and Mini Great North Run campaign will receive sponsorship from the Harrison Foundation, following their generous donation exceeding £27,000 last year. This previous contribution funded life-changing specialist equipment for 29 children and a primary school.
Dan Harrison MBE, trustee of the privately-run charitable foundation established by his parents, expressed his enthusiasm for continuing their support. "It is a privilege to be able to support The Sunshine Fund for this year's Junior and Mini Great North Run," he stated. "Having participated in the event multiple times with my own children, I recognise what an exceptional day it represents and how effectively it raises funds for remarkable charities like this one."
Mr Harrison, who annually participates in the Junior and Mini event with his two children for the charity, will also be running the main Great North Run for The Sunshine Fund the following day.
True Potential LLP Continues Eight-Year Partnership
On Sunday, September 13th, The Sunshine Fund will celebrate more than 70 runners joining Team Sunshine for the main event. For the eighth consecutive year, their Great North Run campaign will receive sponsorship from True Potential LLP, strengthening an established partnership.
Sophie Busby, Head of Adviser Operations at True Potential Wealth Management, commented: "True Potential is thrilled to be supporting the Sunshine Fund in the 2026 Great North Run. Eleven members of our team are undertaking the challenge, with comprehensive support from the wider business as we unite to raise vital funds for an exceptional cause."
Charity Spaces Still Available for Participants
The Sunshine Fund currently has a limited number of guaranteed charity spaces remaining for the Great North Run. All registered runners will receive a Team Sunshine t-shirt or vest, a goodie bag, discounted entry to the Sunshine Run 5K event in June, and an invitation to join the post-run celebration at their marquee in the charity village with friends and family.
Charity spaces require a £50 registration fee, with all participants pledging to raise a minimum of £300. These funds will directly impact local families by improving the lives of children facing significant health challenges across the North East region.
