Falcon Lodge Community Centre Closure Leaves Void in Sutton Coldfield
Falcon Lodge Community Centre Closure Impact

Falcon Lodge Youth and Community Centre, located at the heart of the Sutton Coldfield estate, has been closed since 2024. The building, painted in blue and white, now stands empty, a stark reminder of the services once provided by charity Compass Support. The lease ended two years ago, and the site was returned to Birmingham City Council.

Impact on the Community

During a lunchtime visit, the area was quiet, with few people passing by. Most residents headed to the nearby mini Asda. One shop owner described the closure as a "huge loss" for locals. Others noted that young people often ride scooters with little else to do. The centre's absence is deeply felt by the community.

Councillor's Efforts to Reopen

Councillor Richard Parkin, representing Sutton Reddicap, has been working with council officers and partners for two years to establish a new community centre. He stated: "An active and vibrant community centre is not only a welcoming public space where local residents can meet for social, educational, and recreational activities. It also serves as an essential neighbourhood hub with services designed to provide support and improve community well-being."

Parkin remains hopeful that Falcon Lodge will soon have a centre that residents can be proud of. He continues to push for a solution to meet the needs of all age groups in the area.
