Llwynhendy's New Community Hub Opens in Transformed Library
New Canolfan Llwynhendy Community Hub Opens Doors

From Empty Library to Thriving Community Heart

A disused library building in Llwynhendy has been given a spectacular new lease of life, officially reopening as Canolfan Llwynhendy, a vibrant hub designed to serve the local community. Llanelli Rural Council, which now owns the building, has overseen the extensive renovation works, creating a fresh, light, and welcoming space for residents.

What's Inside the New Hub?

The transformed facility offers a wide array of services and amenities all under one roof. Residents can look forward to using meeting rooms, enjoying a social coffee in the new café, and accessing an automated library service that promises longer opening hours and greater accessibility. The centre will also provide crucial support through housing and employment advice, various training opportunities, and a programme of community events run by Pro-Vision Llwynhendy and Our Llwynhendy.

The successful redevelopment was a collaborative effort, made possible by funding from the Welsh Government, Llanelli Rural Council, Our Llwynhendy, and Carmarthenshire County Council. The furnishing of the building was specifically funded by a grant from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

A Seamless Link to Outdoor Improvements

Council Leader and Chairman, Cllr Sue Lewis, expressed her pride in the project, stating it offers a place where people can access vital services locally and enjoy a range of activities. She specifically highlighted how the centre integrates with the outdoor improvements at the adjacent Parc Y Gwili, creating a seamless environment that boosts community wellbeing.

Cllr Deryk Cundy, Chairman of the Recreation and Welfare Committee, echoed this sentiment, calling the centre a "real asset for Llwynhendy." He emphasised that the hub is "not just about books," but a place where people can get support, learn, and connect. The new café is poised to become a key social space, while the connection to the park's new play areas and landscaping makes the area a destination for all ages.

The centre will be open to the public Monday to Friday and is available for hire seven days a week. While an official opening ceremony is pending ministerial availability, a series of community events will be scheduled to celebrate the launch.
