Officers from Staffordshire Police made a startling discovery during a routine traffic stop on the M6 motorway, unearthing a large sum of cash and leading to a drug-related arrest.
Dangerous Driving Leads to Major Discovery
The incident unfolded on Monday, November 3, after police received multiple reports of a vehicle being driven erratically and dangerously on the M6 in Stafford. Authorities swiftly located and pulled over the suspicious car.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers were met with an unexpected sight: a huge bundle of cash. The total amount discovered was a staggering £100,000, suspected to be the proceeds of criminal activity.
Arrest and Ongoing Investigation
A 35-year-old woman from London was arrested at the scene. She was taken into custody on suspicion of possession of a controlled Class A drug, namely cocaine, and on suspicion of acquiring, using, or possessing criminal property.
The suspect has since been released on conditional police bail while detectives continue their enquiries into the source of the money and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Separate Incident Involving Pedestrians
In an unrelated case just a few days later, on Friday, November 7, Staffordshire Police responded to a report of four pedestrians near the M6 motorway in the Tittensor area, close to Stoke.
All four individuals were arrested on immigration offences. A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of remaining in the UK beyond his time limit, while a 26-year-old man and two teenagers were arrested on suspicion of knowingly entering the UK without leave. All four have been referred to Immigration Enforcement.
Commenting on the force's ongoing efforts, Chief Inspector Scott McGrath, who leads the road crime team, stated: “Every week our sights are firmly focused on the safety of our roads and taking the fight to criminals who think it’s acceptable to use them for criminality, including the distribution of drugs and criminal assets and exploiting vulnerable people.”
