16-Year-Old and Two Men Arrested in Newcastle Murder Probe

A 16-year-old boy is among three individuals arrested on suspicion of murder following a fatal assault in Newcastle. Police were called to Shields Road in the Byker area at 7.25pm on Tuesday, June 16, after reports of an attack.

Northumbria Police confirmed that a man in his 20s sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where he later died. The victim could not be saved despite medical efforts.

Arrests and Investigation

Three suspects—a 16-year-old boy, a 24-year-old man, and a 22-year-old man—have been arrested on suspicion of murder. They remain in police custody as inquiries continue.

A section of Shields Road remained closed on Wednesday, June 17, while forensic teams and detectives conducted investigations at the scene.

Police Appeal

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Atherton expressed condolences: "This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are firmly with the family of the man who has sadly lost his life. We will offer them all of the support we can and would ask that their privacy is respected at this difficult time."

He added: "We have launched a full investigation into the circumstances around the man’s death and arrested three people on suspicion of murder. We would like to reassure those in the local community that our officers remain in the area to carry out a wide range of enquiries to ascertain exactly what happened."
