Details of the incident

Derbyshire Constabulary reported that officers were called to Clay Cross bus station on Market Street at approximately 10:20 am on May 20. The elderly man was allegedly choked unconscious in an unprovoked assault. Police arrived within minutes and arrested a suspect on suspicion of assault.

The victim, a man in his 80s, sustained injuries to his neck and ear that required stitches. Authorities believe he will make a full physical recovery.

Charges and court appearance

Ryan Godfrey, 28, of Church Avenue, Danesmoor, has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intentional strangulation, and threats to kill. He appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court on May 21 and was remanded in custody.
