Albanian Burglars Sentenced for Targeting Former Footballer's Home
Two Albanian nationals have been handed significant prison sentences for their involvement in a sophisticated burglary conspiracy that targeted multiple properties across Cheshire, including the home of a former professional footballer. The organised crime spree, which occurred over three nights in June 2025, has resulted in substantial jail terms for the perpetrators.
Organised Crime Operation Uncovered
Denis Puka, aged 28, and Erisjan Laska, 29, conducted what authorities described as a well-planned and sophisticated operation alongside an unidentified accomplice. The group established a temporary base by booking an Airbnb property in Warrington, travelling from outside the local area specifically to commit their crimes. Their criminal activities were supported by professional equipment including masks, specialised tools, and walkie-talkies for communication.
The burglars utilised a Seat Leon vehicle fitted with three separate false registration plates during their raids, primarily targeting properties within the Cheshire region. Their criminal enterprise demonstrated significant planning and coordination, with the group purchasing crowbars from a B&Q store in Warrington on June 7th in preparation for their final two intended targets.
Footballer's Family Targeted During Night Raid
Among their victims was Scott Hogan, the current Milton Keynes Dons forward who previously played for both Aston Villa and Birmingham City. The professional footballer's Northwich property was targeted during the early hours of June 7th, with Hogan being awakened around 11:30pm by torchlight shining through his bedroom window.
Prosecutor Nardeen Nemat revealed to Chester Crown Court that Hogan's then-pregnant wife and young daughter were both present in the house during the attempted burglary. The court heard how the defendants climbed over the property's fence before one burglar climbed onto another's shoulders to reach the bedroom window using exterior trellising.
Although nothing was stolen from the Hogan residence, the footballer has since installed enhanced security measures to protect his family. In a personal statement presented to the court, Hogan described experiencing sleepless nights filled with stress and anxiety following the traumatic incident, stating it had created a dramatic and lasting impact on his family's wellbeing.
Wider Crime Spree Across Multiple Locations
The burglary conspiracy extended beyond the Hogan residence, with the criminals targeting multiple properties across different locations:
- Two properties in Blackpool, Lancashire on June 5th where rooms were ransacked while occupants slept
- Properties in Grappenhall, Knutsford, and Northwich on June 6th
- A mansion house in Northwich where £9,000 worth of luxury watches were stolen while residents were on holiday
- An attempted burglary at a Warrington mansion where the criminals fled after being disturbed
Sentencing and Judicial Remarks
During sentencing proceedings on February 3rd, Judge Steven Everett delivered strong remarks about the nature of the crimes. He emphasised the sheer devastation caused by these selfish and despicable acts, particularly noting the terrifying experience endured by Scott Hogan when awakened by torchlight in his own bedroom.
The judge specifically addressed Laska regarding his attitude toward the offences, noting that pre-sentence reports indicated the defendant was minimising his criminal responsibility. Judge Everett stated firmly that it was time for Laska to understand the significant trauma inflicted upon the victims through these calculated criminal actions.
Defence Submissions and Personal Circumstances
Defence counsel Phil Astbury presented mitigation for Puka, highlighting his client's previously clean criminal record and indefinite leave to remain in the United Kingdom. The court heard that Puka came from what was described as a decent family background and had maintained positive community contributions through regular employment.
Laska's personal circumstances were also detailed during proceedings, revealing that he is married to a British woman with two young children and has a Home Office application currently pending consideration by authorities.
Final Outcome and Sentences
Both defendants, who had pleaded guilty to seven counts of conspiracy to commit burglary, received identical prison sentences of 56 months each. The successful prosecution followed police investigation after the Seat Leon vehicle used in the crimes was recovered from a Warrington housing estate more than a week following the burglaries, containing crucial evidence including mobile phones, clothing worn during the offences, tools, and the false registration plates.
This case highlights the serious consequences facing organised criminal groups who target residential properties, particularly when their actions create significant psychological distress for victims and their families. The sentencing serves as a strong deterrent message regarding the severe penalties awaiting those who engage in sophisticated burglary conspiracies within the region.
