Birmingham Man Receives Eight-Year Sentence for Firearms Conspiracy
A Birmingham man has been jailed for eight years after being caught attempting to sell firearms in a police investigation. Delayni Woodcock, aged 24, was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court following his admission of guilt in a conspiracy to possess and sell prohibited weapons.
Police Investigation Uncovers Text Message Evidence
Detectives from the West Midlands Police Major Crime unit launched an investigation into Woodcock, uncovering incriminating text messages that included inquiries such as "how much is an uzi?" The examination of his phone revealed further evidence of negotiations for the sale of firearms and ammunition, spanning from March 2023 to April 2024.
Woodcock, residing on Brockworth Road in Kings Norton, was interviewed by authorities in September 2024. He later pleaded guilty to conspiring to possess a firearm without a certificate and three counts of conspiring to sell a prohibited weapon.
Sentencing and Police Statement
On February 10, Woodcock was sentenced to eight years in prison. Detective Constable Sharon Hetherington, from the Major Crime Unit, emphasized the severity of the case, stating, "Woodcock was clearly trying to sell firearms which would undoubtedly have gone on to been used to commit crime causing untold fear and potential fatality."
She added, "Thankfully, following a complex investigation we've been able to identify a person trying to acquire and sell weapons and disrupt organised crime." This case highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat illegal firearms trade in the region.
The investigation involved meticulous analysis of digital communications, leading to the successful prosecution. The sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the legal consequences associated with firearms offenses in the United Kingdom.
