Birmingham Pub Responds After England World Cup Fight

The Beeches pub in Birmingham has responded after a violent brawl erupted in its beer garden during the England versus Ghana World Cup match on Tuesday, June 23. The pub stated that the perpetrators gained unauthorized access by bypassing security at the entrances of the ticketed event.

Incident Details

West Midlands Police were called to the pub on Thornbridge Avenue at around 14:21 on June 25 after reports of disorder. Shocking footage shows customers fleeing as security personnel tackled those involved. A man was seen brandishing a machete, and a knife was recovered at the scene. No arrests have been made, but police are reviewing footage.

Pub's Response

A spokesperson for the Beeches said: “Our security team intervened quickly and professionally following an incident at the pub on Tuesday, June 23, which we reported to the police. We take these matters extremely seriously and had security measures in place for this event as the safety of our team and customers is our top priority. We do not tolerate any kind of antisocial behaviour and are working closely with the local authorities.”

Police Investigation

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We were called to disorder at The Beeches pub on Thornbridge Avenue on Tuesday night after disorder involving a group of people. Officers attended and a knife was recovered. No arrests have yet been made. We are reviewing footage from the disorder and working with the venue to investigate. Enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible and anyone who saw what happened can call 101 quoting log 5963 of June 23.”

Increased Security Measures

The Beeches, which has hosted many large events safely, said it would be beefing up security and working with Birmingham City Council's licensing department. The pub is located in the heart of the residential community and is a popular venue for watching sports.
