Coventry Teenager Michael Ababio Fatally Stabbed in Broad Street Incident
A tragic stabbing in Coventry has claimed the life of an 18-year-old teenager, identified by police as Michael Ababio. The incident occurred on Sunday, February 22, at approximately 9:40 PM outside Foleshill Library on Broad Street, prompting detectives to launch a full-scale murder investigation.
Details of the Fatal Attack and Police Response
Michael Ababio was rushed to hospital following the stabbing during a disorder on Broad Street. Despite medical efforts, he sadly succumbed to his injuries on the morning of February 23. In a related development, a 19-year-old man, who was also found with stab wounds and taken to hospital, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
West Midlands Police are also investigating a separate disorder that took place on nearby Foleshill Road, about 20 minutes after the fatal attack. Officers do not believe this second incident is directly related to the stabbing. Four individuals were arrested in connection with that disorder, with one person charged with assault and remanded in custody, while the other three have been bailed as investigations continue.
Heartfelt Tribute from Twin Brother
Michael Ababio's twin brother has paid a moving tribute on behalf of the grieving family. He expressed the profound loss, stating, "Most people won't know what it is like to have a twin, but I do. Michael was more than just a brother, he was my second half. He aligned with everything that I liked. Words cannot express the pain we are all feeling right now. You will be greatly missed. Our family will never be the same, but we hope you're in a better place now."
Police Appeal and Warning Against Sharing Footage
Detective Superintendent Jim Munro emphasized the focus on justice for Michael and support for his devastated family. He said, "Michael’s family have been left devastated by his death, and our focus this evening is solely on getting answers for them and justice for Michael. We’ve made good progress already by speaking to witnesses, recovering CCTV, and other enquiries, but we still really need the public’s help. If you saw what happened, or you know why someone may wanted to have hurt Michael, please do the right thing for his family and let us know."
West Midlands Police have issued a stern warning against sharing footage of the incidents online after videos circulated on social media. The force urged the public to "think of Michael’s family" and to "ensure our investigation is not compromised."
