A father screamed "I'm dead" as a masked gunman opened fire on his doorstep in a horrifying broad daylight attack in the Black Country, moments after he returned from the school run.
The Terrifying Morning Attack
Nadeem Khan, a man in his 40s, had just parked on his driveway on Charles Foster Street, Darlaston, and was making a phone call from inside his BMW at around 9am on October 11 last year. Chilling footage shows a Toyota C-HR pulling up outside his home, reversing and bumping into another car before a rear window was rolled down.
A gunman then fired a shotgun towards Mr Khan, shattering the car's windows as he cowered in fear. The victim desperately shouted to those on the call, "phone the police, I've been shot". The attacker quickly reloaded the double-barrelled shotgun and got out of the Toyota.
A Desperate Chase and Escape
Mr Khan rushed from the driver's seat but was cornered as the gunman chased him around the silver BMW, firing a third shot. A fourth blast was fired through the car before the assailant brazenly returned to the Toyota and fled the scene.
The attack left blood splattered across the BMW, on the ground, and on a wall of the victim's home. A neighbour, hearing the commotion, asked Mr Khan if he was alright, to which he replied, "no, I have been shot".
Injuries and Legal Proceedings
Mr Khan suffered shotgun pellet wounds to his face, shoulders, buttocks, arm, and hand. A judge later remarked he was 'lucky' to survive. Pellets were embedded in his body, requiring surgery at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
Although the gunman and the weapon remain at large, five accomplices from the Birmingham area have been caught. At Wolverhampton Crown Court, prosecutor Darren Whitehead said the motive was unknown but involved 'significant planning'.
On the second day of their trial in July, all five men admitted:
- Conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm with intent.
- Conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life.
The convicted men are:
- Shamus Hussain, 26, of Floyer Road, Small Heath.
- Mohammed Ishtiaq, 23, of Oldknow Road, Small Heath.
- Abdullah Amjad, 23, of Allens Avenue, Winson Green.
- Samir Khan, 19, of East Holme, Bordesley Green.
- Dilawar Khan, 20, of Mansel Road, Small Heath.
Judge Chambers adjourned sentencing until January 12, 2026. The case has left the community in Darlaston deeply concerned for their safety.
