Disqualified Driver Sentenced Following Dramatic Crash

A 27-year-old man has been sent to prison after a police pursuit through Wolverhampton ended with his vehicle crashing into a wall. Mohammed Chowdhury, who was already banned from driving, was jailed for 18 weeks at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court.

The Failed Escape Attempt

The incident began on Sunday, November 9, when officers from West Midlands Police attempted to pull over a Volvo being driven by Chowdhury on Windsor Road. Instead of stopping, the disqualified driver accelerated away, heading towards Myrtle Street in the Parkfields area.

His attempt to evade capture was short-lived. The pursuit concluded dramatically when Chowdhury lost control of the Volvo and collided with a wall. Following the crash, he abandoned the damaged vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

Apprehension and Court Appearance

Despite his initial escape, Chowdhury's freedom was brief. Through dedicated enquiries, the local neighbourhood police team located and detained him in Smethwick the following afternoon.

At Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, November 12, Chowdhury pleaded guilty to a catalogue of driving offences. These included: driving whilst disqualified, failing to stop for police, driving without insurance, and criminal damage.

The court handed down an immediate custodial sentence of 18 weeks.

Police Reaction to the Sentencing

Following the sentencing, Sergeant Marc Buller commented on the case, stating: "We know that road safety is an important issue for our residents and it is great for us as local officers to be able to do our part to get an offender like this off the streets."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police reinforced the message, confirming that the force's proactive efforts led to Chowdhury's arrest and subsequent conviction, ensuring a dangerous and disqualified driver was removed from the roads.
