Mansfield drink-driver, nearly 4x over limit, crashes into car at lights
Driver almost 4x limit crashes at Mansfield traffic lights

A disqualified driver from the Midlands, who was found to be almost four times the legal alcohol limit, caused a collision after smashing into the back of a car waiting at traffic lights.

Dangerous Decision on Leeming Road

The incident occurred on Leeming Road South in Mansfield Woodhouse, Mansfield, at approximately 10.30pm on Saturday, November 15. Prince Ncube, 31, drove into the stationary vehicle as it was stopped at the lights.

Thankfully, the two people inside the other car were not injured. They quickly suspected Ncube had been drinking and alerted the police.

Shocking Reading and Previous Ban

Officers breathalysed Ncube at the scene before taking him into custody. Subsequent analysis revealed he had 137 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The legal limit in England and Wales is just 35 micrograms, making his reading nearly four times over.

It was also discovered that Ncube was already banned from driving at the time due to a previous conviction for drink-driving.

Court Sentence and Police Warning

At Nottingham Magistrates' Court on December 24, Ncube, of Leeming Road South, Mansfield, admitted to drink-driving, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance.

His sentence included:

  • An eight-week prison term, suspended for 12 months.
  • A new three-year driving ban.
  • A requirement to complete 50 hours of unpaid work.
  • Mandatory completion of an alcohol treatment programme.

Detective Sergeant Clint Gloyn of Nottinghamshire Police commented on the case. "Fortunately for Ncube, nobody was seriously injured in this incident," he said.

"Things, however, could easily have been different after he made the conscious decision to drive while intoxicated. By doing so, he put other road users in danger and must now live with the consequences of his actions."
