Ex-Cricketer Gordon Charged Over Stolen Car and Machete

Former Warwickshire county cricketer Recordo Gordon has been charged with criminal offences after a machete was discovered inside a suspected stolen vehicle in Birmingham.

Police Patrol Leads to Arrest

West Midlands Police officers from the Operation Skybridge team were conducting proactive patrols in the Erdington area when they identified a car believed to be stolen on Sutton Road. The vehicle was stopped, and during a subsequent search, officers located and seized a machete.

Charges and Court Appearance

The 34-year-old man, identified as Recordo Gordon, was arrested at the scene. Gordon has since been formally charged with theft of a motor vehicle and possession of an offensive weapon. He is scheduled to appear before Birmingham Magistrates' Court next month to face these charges.

From Cricket Pitch to Criminal Charges

Recordo Gordon's career once saw him sharing a dressing room with England cricket stars like Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott. He signed for Warwickshire, also known as the Bears, in 2011 and made his first-class debut in 2013. His tenure with the county club concluded when he was released at the end of the 2016 season.

A statement from West Midlands Police confirmed the details: "A man has been charged with multiple offences after he was arrested by our Operation Skybridge officers... Recordo Gordon has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, and possession of offensive weapon." The force also highlighted that its Operation Skybridge teams continue to carry out enforcement actions across Birmingham to target offenders and disrupt criminal activity.
