Five in Court Following Early Morning Shooting
Five people are now facing serious charges, including conspiracy to murder, after a man was shot near a busy shopping centre in Sutton Coldfield. The incident sent shockwaves through the local community and prompted a major police investigation.
Details of the Wylde Green Attack
The victim, a man in his 30s, was targeted near The Lanes Shopping Centre in Wylde Green at approximately 7.30am on Friday, October 24. He sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to hospital for treatment. Authorities have confirmed that his injuries were found to be not life-threatening.
Following a complex inquiry by the West Midlands Police's Major Crime Unit, five individuals were arrested and have since been charged. The accused and their specific charges are:
- Kirstie Gavin, 32: Attempted murder and conspiracy to murder.
- Adrian Hylton, 43: Attempted murder, conspiracy to murder, robbery, and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
- Dwaine Patterson, 46: Conspiracy to murder.
- Terrence Regis, 43: Attempted murder, conspiracy to murder, robbery, and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
- Carly Smith, 36: Conspiracy to murder.
Court Appearances and Ongoing Investigation
All five defendants have already made an initial appearance at Birmingham Magistrates' Court. The court ordered them all to be remanded in custody while they await a further hearing scheduled for next month at Birmingham Crown Court.
Detective Inspector Stacey Follows, leading the investigation, provided a statement on the case's progress. "These charges are a significant step forward in what has been a complex and demanding investigation," she said. "Dedicated officers have been working around-the-clock since this happened, with the aim of making arrests and securing charges against those suspected to be involved."
DI Follows also confirmed that the investigation remains active, urging anyone with information who has not yet come forward to contact the police. The scene on Birmingham Road in Wylde Green was sealed off for several hours following the early morning shooting, causing significant disruption as officers conducted their initial enquiries.
