Community Rallies After Terrifying Dog Attack
A nine-year-old girl is recovering from horrific injuries after being mauled by a suspected XL Bully-type dog on a Birmingham street. The attack occurred on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at around 6:30 PM on Springthorpe Green at the junction with Spiral Green in the Pype Hayes area of Erdington.
Eva Mangenje was walking back from the shops with her mother, Alicia Wint, when the unprovoked attack happened. Two dogs were loose in the area, but only one, described as a dark brown 'XL Bully-type', attacked. The owner was not present at the time.
Brave Rescuers and Horrific Injuries
Three men, identified as Trevor, Errol, and Martin, intervened to save Eva. Errol and Martin were driving by when they witnessed the attack. They stopped their car in the middle of the road and, along with Trevor, fought to pull the dog off the young girl.
Despite their efforts, which included hitting and kicking the animal, the dog would not release its grip initially. Eva suffered severe injuries to her legs, arm, and groin. Her sister, Nyeama, heard the entire incident over the phone and immediately alerted emergency services.
West Midlands Ambulance Service responded to the scene, treating Eva for potentially serious injuries before transporting her to Birmingham Children's Hospital.
Long Road to Recovery
The physical healing process has been arduous. Eva has already undergone two rounds of surgery with plastic surgeons. However, the psychological scars run deep. Her mother reports that Eva is experiencing flashbacks and nightmares from the traumatic event.
During the attack, the terrified schoolgirl told her mother, "Mum, I'm going to die." The family now faces the challenge of returning to their home, which is just two minutes from the attack site, a prospect that frightens Eva.
Alicia Wint has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for her daughter's essential therapy and to cover potential legal costs as they seek justice. She stated, "We will be pursuing legal action because this must stop before a child is killed."
West Midlands Police are investigating the incident and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward, quoting log 3474 of 16 November. The search for the dog and its owner continues.
