West Midlands Police have launched an investigation after a man was seriously injured in a dog attack on Gillhurst Road in Harborne. The man was rushed to hospital with arm injuries after being bitten by an escaped dog on Monday, June 29.
Details of the Attack
The dog, which had escaped from a home on the same road, also attacked another dog during the incident. Officers from West Midlands Police attended the scene and subsequently seized the animal along with two other dogs from the same address. The dogs will undergo an assessment, but police do not believe they belong to a banned breed.
Community Reaction
Residents living near Gillhurst Road said the incident has left the community "frightened." One resident claimed that other dog attacks have occurred in the area over the past eight months, adding, "It's not acceptable that people are being hurt, and the police don't care."
Police Statement
A West Midlands Police spokesperson confirmed: "We were called to Gillhurst Road on Monday (29 June) to reports a dog had bitten a man and attacked another dog. The man was treated at hospital for injuries to his arm. The dog is believed to have escaped from an address on the same road when the attack took place. It has since been seized along with two other dogs from the address. They will undergo an assessment. The seized dogs are not believed to be a banned breed."
