Reegan Bates, 25, of no fixed abode, has been charged with attempted rape, non-fatal strangulation, indecent exposure, possession of an offensive weapon, and assaulting an emergency worker following an alleged attack on a National Express West Midlands bus. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear before Birmingham Magistrates' Court today (June 22).
Incident on the X14 Service
The passenger was travelling on the No X14 service on the A38 Aston Expressway on Saturday (June 20) when she was allegedly attacked. West Midlands Police were called and arrested a man at the scene. Specialist officers are continuing to support the woman during this difficult time.

Detective Chief Inspector Laura Allen said: “I want to thank the members of the public who were on the bus at the time and helped. I know this must have been very distressing for them. Incidents like this are rare. But if anything like this has happened to you or someone you know, I would urge you to get in touch. We take reports like this very seriously. Officers from our Safer Travel teams will be providing a visible presence on our buses to provide further reassurance.”
