A man has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place after West Midlands Police officers allegedly seized a knife from a car in Tipton. The incident, which occurred on Monday, April 13, has led to a court date being set for the accused.

West Midlands Police stated that they received reports of a man in possession of a knife inside a vehicle at approximately 7:50 PM on Monday, April 13. Officers conducted a quick response and located the car within minutes on Dudley Port in Tipton, Sandwell.
Upon arrival, police seized a knife from the scene. The swift action was part of ongoing efforts to address weapon-related crimes in the area.
Charges and Court Appearance
The individual involved has been identified as Ashley Smith, a 21-year-old resident of West Bromwich. Smith has been formally charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
He is scheduled to appear at Dudley Magistrates’ Court on May 5 to face the charges. This legal proceeding marks a significant step in the police's crackdown on weapon offenses.
Police Statement and Ongoing Operations
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police confirmed the details, stating, "A man has been charged after a knife was seized in Sandwell. It follows a quick response by officers after we received reports of a man in possession of a knife inside a car."
The spokesperson added, "Officers located the car within minutes on Dudley Port, Tipton and seized a knife. Smith, aged 21, is due to appear at Dudley Magistrates’ Court on 5 May."
This incident coincides with Operation Scarletfox, an initiative by West Midlands Police involving increased patrols and targeted activities in Tipton to enhance community safety and reduce crime rates.
