A man has been charged with attempted rape following an attack on a woman aboard a bus in Birmingham. The incident took place on the number 14 service on Wednesday, April 5, in the Small Heath area.
Details of the Incident
West Midlands Police responded to reports that a woman had been assaulted on the bus. The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Mohammed Ali, of no fixed address, was arrested at the scene. He has since been charged with attempted rape and possession of a bladed article.
The victim, whose age has not been disclosed, is receiving support from specialist officers. Police have confirmed that she did not sustain serious physical injuries but is understandably distressed.
Court Appearance
Mohammed Ali appeared at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Saturday, April 8. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on May 5.
Detective Inspector Jim Colclough, from West Midlands Police, said: "This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim, and we are providing her with all the support she needs. We would like to thank members of the public who came to her aid and alerted the bus driver, who immediately stopped the vehicle and called police."
