Man Appears in Court Over Alleged Thefts Targeting Elderly
A 53-year-old man from Wolverhampton has appeared in court, accused of stealing thousands of pounds from elderly men in a series of incidents across the Black Country.
Cornel Birzoi, of Whitmore Reans, faced charges at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court this morning, Tuesday, November 18.
Details of the Alleged Offences
The court heard that a 90-year-old man allegedly had £3,000 stolen from his car while it was parked in Stone Street, Dudley, on October 20.
In a separate incident dating back to April last year, a 76-year-old man's bank card was taken after he visited a bank in Wolverhampton. The card was then allegedly used to withdraw an undisclosed amount of cash.
Arrest and Charges
West Midlands Police made an arrest on Monday afternoon, November 17, after a member of the public came forward. The individual reported seeing a man matching the description of a suspect in a bank on Castle Street, following a police appeal for information.
Officers subsequently brought a man into custody for questioning. Cornel Birzoi was later charged with:
- Fraud by false representation
- Theft from a motor vehicle
He was remanded in custody ahead of his court appearance this morning.
