Officers were called to an address on George Toon Court in Syston, Leicestershire, shortly before noon on Tuesday, 23rd December 2025. The call was made following a report expressing concern for a person's welfare.
Upon entering the flat, police discovered an unresponsive man, believed to be in his 40s. The East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended the scene, but the man was pronounced dead there.
Suspect Arrested and Early Investigation Details
Detectives from the major crime team quickly established that the man had likely been assaulted inside the property. As a result, a 49-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Kevin Hames, stated that the incident is believed to have occurred inside the flat during the morning of Tuesday, 23rd December.
"The victim and the man in custody are known to each other," said DI Hames. "While our investigation is still in its early stage, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at this time."
Ongoing Police Inquiries in the Area
A significant police presence remains in the Syston area as detectives work to piece together the events leading to the man's death. Their inquiries include:
- Speaking to local residents who may have witnessed anything.
- Conducting a thorough forensic examination of the flat.
- Reviewing CCTV footage to trace the victim's final movements.
DI Hames appealed directly to the public for information: "There are officers in the area who are speaking to people who may have saw or heard anything that could assist with our investigation. If you have not been spoken to but have some information that could be useful, please contact us."
The investigation continues under the direction of the major crime team, supported by specialist resources and local neighbourhood officers.
