Parking Dispute Escalates in Midlands Street, Police Called After 15-Hour Delay
A parking dispute has erupted in a Midlands street, with one couple claiming they were left trapped after other vehicles were parked too closely to their own car. The incident prompted a call to Staffordshire Police at 8pm on Friday, March 13, but officers did not arrive until 15 hours later, according to the residents involved.
Couple Reports Being Trapped and Abandoned
Gabor Torok and his wife, who have a three-year-old child, stated they were physically unable to leave their property due to the parking situation. Torok explained, "We called the police and despite multiple calls no officers arrived for 15 hours. My wife missed her work because we were physically unable to leave the property." He added that they felt completely abandoned and unsafe, with responses from emergency services limited to apologies and log numbers without tangible assistance.
Mental Health Impact and Police Response
Torok, who lives with ADHD, highlighted the severe distress caused by the uncertainty and feeling of being trapped. "The police delay isn't just an inconvenience; it's affecting my mental health and well-being," he said. Upon finally attending the scene, the couple alleged that officers gaslighted them, further exacerbating the situation.
Staffordshire Police Confirms Attendance and Advice Given
Staffordshire Police confirmed that officers were called to Acreswood Road in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent. A spokesman stated, "We were called shortly before 8pm on Friday, March 13, to Acreswood Road in Burslem. A resident reported that a car was blocking their driveway. An officer attended the scene, gave advice to the owner of the vehicle, and offered reassurance to the resident." The incident underscores ongoing challenges in community safety and police response times in residential areas.
