Police Launch Urgent Appeal Following Sexual Assault on Tipton Canal

West Midlands Police have issued an urgent public appeal for information after a teenager was sexually assaulted along a canal in Tipton. The distressing incident occurred on Monday, February 2, and has prompted a significant police response in the local area.

Details of the Canal Path Attack

The assault took place along the canal near Groveland Road in Tipton between 10:00 am and 11:30 am. Authorities have confirmed that the victim is a teenage girl, and specialist officers from the Public Protection Unit are providing ongoing support to both the young woman and her family during this traumatic time.

In response to the attack, West Midlands Police have immediately stepped up reassurance patrols in and around the canal area. These visible patrols are intended to provide comfort to the local community and deter any further criminal activity.

Description of Suspect and Police Appeal

Investigators have released a photograph of a man they are keen to speak with in connection with the serious assault. The individual is described as being of Asian or Oriental appearance, approximately 25 years old, with a distinctive blonde ponytail.

At the time of the incident, he was reportedly wearing black clothing and riding a bicycle along the canal towpath. This specific detail may be crucial for members of the public who were in the vicinity during the stated time window.

Detective Inspector Gareth Snyman from the Public Protection Unit emphasised the importance of community assistance, stating: "We are continuing to offer support to the girl and her family and have reassurance patrols in place in and around the area. I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at that time and anyone who may have dash-cam footage to get in touch."

Police are urging anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward. This includes:

  • Anyone who was walking, cycling, or driving near the Groveland Road canal between 10:00 am and 11:30 am on Monday, February 2.
  • Individuals or businesses in the area who may have private CCTV, doorbell camera footage, or dash-cam recordings from that timeframe.
  • Anyone who recognises the man in the released image or who has information about the suspect's movements.
