Police Dog Sniffs Out Suspected Car Thieves in Black Country Pursuit

Two suspected car thieves have been apprehended in the Black Country, thanks to the sharp senses of a police dog. The incident unfolded after a vehicle was stolen from the Castle Bromwich area of Solihull on Saturday morning, February 21.

West Midlands Police officers spotted the stolen car approximately 14 miles away in Halesowen, Dudley, later that night. A pursuit ensued, leading the occupants to abandon the vehicle on Dudley Road and attempt to flee the scene on foot.

Canine Assistance Leads to Arrests

Despite their efforts to escape, the suspects did not get far. A police dog was deployed to search the surrounding area, quickly locating the individuals hiding in undergrowth. The dog's keen nose proved instrumental in tracking down the pair.

An 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of theft. Both remain in police custody for questioning as the investigation continues.

Police Statement on the Incident

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police provided details on the operation: "We've arrested two people after recovering a car which was stolen from Solihull in the Halesowen area. We were alerted to a vehicle being taken from Castle Bromwich yesterday morning. It was spotted by officers last night and following a pursuit the car was abandoned near Dudley Road and the occupants made off. However, with the help of one of our police dogs, we managed to search through overgrowth and trace two suspects."

The spokesperson confirmed that both individuals have been arrested on suspicion of theft and are currently being held for further interrogation. This case highlights the effectiveness of police resources, including canine units, in combating vehicle crime across the region.
