Prolific Thief Handed Jail Sentence and Shopping Ban
A persistent shoplifter has been sentenced to two weeks in prison and prohibited from entering a Sutton Coldfield shopping area following multiple theft offences.
Kieran Brooks, aged 21, received the punishment at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Thursday, November 6, after being convicted of 21 separate offences, which included 18 shop thefts.
Court Imposes Strict Criminal Behaviour Order
Brooks, who resides at Parkeston Crescent in Birmingham, was arrested earlier this week at the Princess Alice Drive retail park, where he had been wanted by police.
In addition to the prison term, magistrates imposed a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO). This order explicitly forbids him from entering the Princess Alice Retail Park or a specific shop on Kingstanding Road.
The court made it clear that Brooks faces a return to prison if he breaches the conditions of this order.
Police Commitment to Tackling Retail Crime
Neighbourhood Inspector Hayley Thompson commented on the case, stating: "Our officers work closely with business owners and staff every day to prevent shop theft, as we know that it's a concern for the local community."
She emphasised their complete commitment to tackling the crime and bringing offenders to justice, adding that the CBO demonstrates their dedication to protecting retail workers and keeping shopping areas safe.
Inspector Thompson also encouraged local retailers to report all thefts and raise any concerns with officers.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police highlighted their broader efforts, noting: "We're working hard to tackle shop theft offences across the West Midlands. Arrests for it have risen over 60 per cent in the last two years as we've improved the way we respond to crime reports."
