A 16-year-old girl, described as having her whole life ahead of her, and her pet dog were tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident just moments from her home in Navan, County Meath. The devastating collision occurred on Saturday, February 21, around 8:20 p.m., as Mia Lily Keogh O’Keeffe was using a pedestrian crossing on Slane Road while walking her dog, Bowie.
Emergency Response and Arrest
Paramedics rushed to the scene and battled to save the teenager before she was transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where she was later pronounced dead. Police arrested a man in his 20s in connection with the incident, but he was subsequently released without charge, according to reports from the Irish Mirror.

The GoFundMe post stated: “On Saturday 21 February, Mia Lily was tragically struck by a car while walking her beloved dog, Bowie, on the Slane Road in Navan. She suffered catastrophic injuries and later passed away in hospital. Tragically, Bowie also lost his life. Mia Lily was just moments from her home when the collision occurred, and the driver did not stop.”

Mia Lily leaves behind her heartbroken parents, Louise and Stephen, her sister Katelyn, and her brothers Kai, Zack, and Cole, along with numerous friends and loved ones devastated by her sudden loss. The fundraiser organizer expressed deep gratitude for the kindness and support shown by donors, emphasizing that every contribution helps ease the financial burden during this unimaginably painful time.
