A 16-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being shot in the Alum Rock area of Birmingham. West Midlands Police confirmed the teenager suffered potentially life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds following the incident on Bowyer Road, near St Saviours Road, shortly before 5.30pm on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

Police investigation underway

Officers remain at the scene conducting forensic and CCTV enquiries and speaking to local residents. A police spokesperson said: “Our investigation is at an early stage, and officers remain at the scene carrying out forensic and CCTV enquiries, and speaking to people in the area.” The shooting occurred near a mosque, but police stated they do not currently believe the incident is connected to the place of worship.

The force added: “We understand this is extremely worrying for people in the area, and local officers will be remaining there to speak to anyone with concerns.”
