Three Birmingham Men Arrested Following Machete Robbery at Rubery Express Store
Three men from Birmingham have been taken into police custody in connection with a violent armed robbery at a convenience store in Rubery. The incident occurred at the Rubery Express shop located on New Road during the early hours of Thursday, February 19.
Details of the Armed Raid
According to police reports, between three and four individuals of Asian appearance entered the store shortly before 4:00 AM. The suspects were armed with a machete and demanded cash and vapes from the shop assistant on duty. All robbers were wearing balaclavas to conceal their identities during the confrontation.
The masked assailants successfully stole a small quantity of cash, multiple vapes, and the entire cash register before fleeing the scene on foot. The robbery caused significant alarm in the local community and prompted an immediate police investigation.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Detectives from West Mercia Police launched a comprehensive investigation following the incident. Officers meticulously reviewed CCTV footage from the area and conducted extensive cross-border collaboration with West Midlands Police throughout the day.
Their efforts resulted in three arrests made in the Birmingham area on Thursday evening. The arrested individuals are aged 19, 22, and 26 years old. A machete believed to be connected to the robbery was also recovered by authorities following the arrests.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police confirmed: "Three men have been arrested after a knifepoint robbery at a convenience store on New Road in Rubery. Shortly before 4am yesterday, three men who were armed with a machete entered the Rubery Express store and stole cash, vapes and the till."
Ongoing Investigation
All three suspects remain in police custody as the investigation continues to develop. Initially, police believed three or four individuals might have been involved in the robbery, but investigating officers have now determined that exactly three perpetrators participated in the crime.
The police spokesperson added: "Extensive enquiries and cross-border work with officers at West Midlands Police continued throughout the day and three men were arrested from the Birmingham area yesterday evening. The three men, aged 19, 22 and 26, all remain in police custody as the investigation continues to progress."
