Two men have been arrested after police stopped and searched a car in Burntwood, uncovering cocaine, three mobile phones, cash, and a Stanley knife.
Officers Witness Suspected Drug Deal
Staffordshire Police reported that officers observed a suspected drug deal between a pedestrian and the passenger of a car at 6.30pm on Saturday, June 20. The vehicle was pulled over 40 minutes later, leading to the discovery of the illicit items.
A 43-year-old man from Walsall was arrested on suspicion of possession of a blade in a public place and possession with intent to supply a class A controlled drug (cocaine). A 36-year-old man from Redditch was also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a class A controlled drug (cocaine). Both have been released on bail while investigations continue.
Broader Operation Targets Knife Crime
The arrests were part of a wider operation aimed at tackling knife-related crime in Lichfield. As part of the initiative, the force conducted 10 stop-searches and issued five public protection notices, which are used to safeguard vulnerable adults and children.
Lichfield LPT inspector Mel Byrne stated: “Knife crime on a county-wide and LPT level is an active priority for us here in Staffordshire. Officers undertake a range of activities, including targeted operations, weapon sweeps, visits to habitual knife carriers and education sessions in schools to explain the dangers and consequences that come from carrying a knife. We're working hard every single day on a local level to tackle knife crime proactively across Staffordshire.”
