Police in Shropshire have launched a renewed appeal for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision that resulted in the death of an 83-year-old pedestrian.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The serious incident occurred on Whitchurch Road in Shrewsbury, close to the local Morrisons supermarket. It took place at approximately 12.30pm on Saturday, November 22.
According to investigators, the collision involved an Audi TT and the elderly male pedestrian. Despite the efforts of emergency services, the 83-year-old man sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Urgent Police Appeal for Key Witness
Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now pleading for a specific witness to come forward. They are keen to trace the driver of a small white car or van that was in the immediate vicinity moments before the crash.
PC Steve Wootton, the investigating officer, provided crucial details: "We are keen to speak to the driver of a small white car or van which was travelling from the direction of Heathgates roundabout and turned right into First Avenue seconds before the collision."
He emphasised that while this driver was not involved, they could possess vital information or dashcam footage that would significantly aid the ongoing investigation.
How the Public Can Assist
Authorities have confirmed that a woman in her 50s has been spoken to and is assisting with enquiries. However, the investigation remains active, and police are eager to hear from any other witnesses they have not yet identified.
PC Wootton extended his condolences, stating: "Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and loved ones of the man who sadly died."
Anyone with information, whether they witnessed the collision itself or have relevant dashcam footage from the area at that time, is urged to contact the police directly.
