Tragic Stabbing Rocks Birmingham City Centre

A 34-year-old woman has been fatally stabbed in an unprovoked attack at a bus stop in Birmingham city centre, opposite what police data reveals is the area's worst street for crime.

Katie Fox was attacked at a bus stop on Smallbrook Queensway at approximately 9pm on Friday, November 7. The incident occurred directly opposite the entrance to Worcester Street, a small cut-through that has recorded the highest crime rate in Birmingham city centre.

Worcester Street: Birmingham's Crime Hotspot

According to latest figures from police.uk, 965 crimes have been reported on or near Worcester Street so far this year - the highest number of any road in the city centre.

This staggering statistic translates to an average of 107 crimes every month between January and September, based on West Midlands Police data.

Among these offences, 151 were classified as violent and sexual crimes, averaging 16 such incidents monthly. This category includes common assault, sexual attacks, rape and grievous bodily harm.

The data further reveals that 27 people were robbed on Worcester Street in 2025, while 16 individuals were reported for carrying weapons in the same location throughout the year.

Community Response and Police Action

Following the tragic incident, police have pledged to deploy additional officers around Birmingham city centre to reassure the public and address growing concerns about women's safety.

Djeison Rafael, aged 21, has been charged with murder in connection with Katie Fox's death.

In a moving tribute, Katie's family described her as a "shining light" in their lives, stating: "Gone too soon dear Katie, so beautiful and kind. A part of us was snatched away on that fateful night."

The family expressed their gratitude to paramedics, police, and the ITU at Queen Elizabeth Hospital for their professionalism and companionship during this difficult time.

They have requested privacy as they grieve the loss of their "most precious daughter," remembering Katie as "everything a daughter could be and much more."
