Rochdale Churches Announce Easter Season Services and Community Events
Churches throughout Rochdale are extending warm invitations to residents for a variety of worship services, study groups, and community gatherings throughout April. This comprehensive schedule highlights the vibrant faith community in the area, offering opportunities for spiritual growth and social connection.
St Luke's Church, Deeplish
St Luke's Church in Deeplish will host a Morning Praise service on April 12 at 10am, led by Reader Sue Horobin. Following the service, attendees are invited to enjoy tea or coffee and engage in friendly conversation. Additionally, on Wednesday, April 15, the church offers a Bible Study session at 10am, open to anyone interested in learning about the Bible in an informal setting. This will be followed by a Holy Communion service at 11am, officiated by Revd Natty Gray. The congregation emphasizes its welcoming and caring atmosphere for both regular members and newcomers.
St Mary's, Balderstone
St Mary's in Balderstone is hosting its monthly coffee morning today from 10am until noon in the parish room. This event features drinks and a selection of savory and sweet treats, with toasted teacakes being a particular favorite. It's an ideal opportunity to meet new friends or catch up with family in a welcoming environment. Tomorrow, the church holds a morning service at 10.30am, with doors opening from 10am. Children's groups are included, and light snacks and refreshments will be served afterward. Please note that the Sunday evening prayer gathering is cancelled this week but will resume on April 19. St Chad's and St Mary in the Baum
St Chad's on Sparrow Hill and the Grade I listed St Mary in the Baum continue to serve the Rochdale community with open arms. Children's activities are available during Sunday morning services, and refreshments are provided afterward. Today, April 11 at noon, St Chad's presents a Midday Concert featuring baritone Gabriel Rhodes performing Lieder and Art Song music. Admission is £6, including light refreshments from 11.30am. Tomorrow, April 12, marks the Second Sunday of Easter with services at both churches: The Eucharist with hymns at St Mary's at 9.15am and Choral Matins at St Chad's at 11.15am, led by Rev Pamela Parr. Weekly activities include Red Cross refugee assistance at St Mary's on Mondays from 10am to 2pm, a Toad Lane Lunchtime Concert at St Mary's on April 15 from 12.30pm to 1.30pm with singer Lucy Farrimond (£6 admission), gardening at St Chad's on Wednesdays from 1pm, and cleaning on Thursdays from 10.30am. Holy Trinity Benefice of Littleborough
Holy Trinity Benefice celebrates Holy Communion at 10.15am this Sunday, officiated by Revd. James Read. A Sunday School for primary school children is available during the first part of the service in term time, followed by tea, coffee, and biscuits. On Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm, a Bible Study and prayer group meets at a member's home, welcoming all interested individuals. The church recently enjoyed two Easter services shared with St Barnabas and St James, including a 6am Holy Communion at St James and a 10am service at St Barnabas.
St Andrews, Dearnley
St Andrews in Dearnley extends Happy Easter greetings and reports a well-attended Easter Day service on April 5, including three young boys celebrating their first communion. Weekly services include Morning Prayer on Wednesdays at 9.30am and a midweek Eucharist on Thursdays at 10.30am, with light refreshments afterward. The Prayer Group with Mike and Mag will restart soon. The church is also organizing a poppy display for November, seeking donations of red wool and patterns. Holy Communion classes for children have concluded, and the Electoral Roll is open until April 13.
