Rochdale Churches Announce March Schedule of Services and Community Events
Multiple churches across Rochdale have announced their schedules for March, featuring Lent services, community gatherings, and special events designed to welcome both regular members and newcomers.
St Luke's Church, Deeplish
St Luke's Church in Deeplish will hold a Morning Praise service on March 1 at 10am, officiated by Reader Sue Horobin. Following the service, a Lent lunch will be served, featuring homemade soup, bread, cheese, jams, tea, and coffee, providing an opportunity for fellowship. Donations for the food will be collected for Tearfund.
On Wednesday, March 4, at 10am, a Bible Study session will begin, focusing on a new Lent course. This informal gathering is open to anyone interested in learning about the Bible. At 11am the same day, another Morning Praise service will be held, officiated by Revd Pamela Parr, welcoming all to join their friendly congregation.
St Mary's, Balderstone
This Saturday, St Mary's invites ladies to their monthly Women's Breakfast from 9am to 10.30am. The event offers breakfast baps, pastries, fruit, and unlimited juice, coffee, and tea, aiming to build friendships and connections. All women, whether new, visiting, or long-time members, are welcome, and guests are encouraged to bring a friend.
Tomorrow, a Holy Communion service will take place at 10.30am, with doors opening from 10am. The service will include children's groups and a discussion on 1 Timothy chapter 2 verses one to fifteen. Light snacks and refreshments will be served afterward in a warm atmosphere.
Additionally, St Mary's hosts several regular activities:
- A shared prayer gathering tomorrow evening at St Saviour's Church on Bishopsgate Street, off Denton Lane, Chadderton, OL9 9BF, with Zoom participation available.
- SMUrFs (St Mary's Under Fives) on Tuesday afternoons from 1.30pm to 3pm in the parish room, featuring play, craft, and music for a small fee.
- Midweek small groups on Wednesdays at 10am in the church lounge and 7.30pm on Zoom, currently studying Samuel.
- A Christianity Explored course on Wednesday evenings from 7.30pm to 8.45pm on Zoom, offering open conversations about the Christian faith.

St Chad's and St Mary in the Baum
Tomorrow, March 1, marks the Second Sunday of Lent and St David's Day. Services include:
- The Eucharist with hymns at St Mary's at 9.15am.
- Choral Eucharist with hymns, psalm, and anthem at St Chad's at 11.15am.
Both services will be officiated by Rev Duke O'Baka-Torto. Children's activities are available during Sunday morning services, with refreshments provided afterward.
Other events include:
- Red Cross help for refugees each Monday at St Mary's from 10am until 2pm, with free refreshments.
- The Toad Lane Lunchtime Concert on Wednesday, March 4, from 12.30pm to 1.30pm at St Mary's, featuring students from Chetham's School of Music, with admission £6.
- On March 8, the Third Sunday of Lent, services will be held at 9.15am at St Mary's and 11.15am at St Chad's, with Rev Pamela Parr preaching.

St Andrews, Dearnley
St Andrews continues its weekly activities, including Morning Prayer on Wednesdays at 9.30am and a said Midweek Eucharist on Thursdays at 10.30am, with light refreshments available afterward. The Prayer Group with Mike and Mag will resume after Lent.
Their Lent course runs on Thursdays at 11.15am for five weeks. Confirmation classes are scheduled for February 28 and March 7 from 2pm to 3pm, with confirmation on March 15 at 6pm at St James, Milnrow.
Upcoming events include:
- The World Day of Prayer on Friday, March 6 at 2.30pm at St Barnabas Church, Littleborough.
- The Mothers' Union meeting on Monday, March 2 at 2pm, featuring speaker David Neal, a wood sculptor.
- A call for Lay Reader applicants, with training tailored for all ages, including those 70 or above.
The church is also collecting red wool for poppy displays in November and supporting the North West Air Ambulance as their chosen charity this month.
A passage from Ephesians 4:26-27 was shared, reminding attendees to handle anger wisely and seek peace through prayer.
