65 New Affordable Homes Approved for Northfield in Birmingham Council Deal
65 New Affordable Homes for Northfield, Birmingham

Birmingham City Council has successfully brokered a significant deal that will see the construction of 65 new affordable homes in the Northfield area of the city.

Details of the Long Nuke Road Development

The agreement, finalised in early December 2025, involves the council selling a site on Long Nuke Road to developer Keon Homes. The homes will be built for housing association Bromford, which will own and manage the entire development.

The mix of affordable housing is specifically designed to meet varied local needs. Twenty-two homes will be offered for social rent, providing deeply subsidised housing for those most in need. A further 22 properties will be allocated for affordable rent, prioritising individuals and families on the council's housing waiting list.

Completing the scheme, 21 homes will be made available for affordable home ownership through Bromford's shared ownership scheme, helping local people take their first step onto the property ladder.

Community Benefits and Partner Collaboration

Beyond housing, the development promises wider community enhancements. Plans include the creation of new sports pitches and the construction of a modern changing pavilion in the adjacent Senneleys Park.

Matt Beckley, Partnerships Director at Keon Homes, highlighted the collaborative effort: "We have an extremely strong relationship with both Birmingham City Council and Bromford... We've defied the odds to amend planning, complete legals and deliver the vision for the site." He confirmed that work began on site just two weeks before a critical planning deadline, with the project receiving full backing from Homes England.

Part of a Wider Council Strategy

This marks the third such partnership deal signed by Birmingham City Council in 2025 to boost affordable housing stock. Earlier in the year, agreements were reached to deliver nearly 300 homes in Stechford and 10 social rent homes at Trescott Road.

Councillor Nicky Brennan, Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness, stated: "Delivering more decent affordable homes for Birmingham families is a key priority for this council, and every single home on the Long Nuke Road development will be affordable." She urged all partners to continue working with the council to identify new sites.

Lyndon Parkes, Head of Land at Bromford, added: "Securing this site is a significant milestone... that will deliver high-quality, affordable homes that will make a real difference to families who need a safe, affordable place to live." The project supports Bromford's wider goal of building 2,000 homes annually.
