Driver Dies After Being Hit by Lorry on A46 in Warwickshire

A driver has died after being struck by a lorry while walking to his broken-down vehicle on the A46 in Warwickshire. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, May 22.

Details of the Collision

Police were called to the southbound carriageway between Oversley Green and Salford Priors shortly before 3:45am. A man in his 60s was believed to have been walking towards his car, which had broken down, when he was hit by an HGV.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent two ambulances and a paramedic officer to the scene on Norton Lenchwick Bypass in Alcester. A spokesperson said: “On arrival, crews found a lorry and a pedestrian had been involved in a collision. Sadly, it quickly became clear that the pedestrian, a man, could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene.”

The lorry driver, a man, was assessed by ambulance staff but did not require further treatment. He was given self-care advice and discharged at the scene.

Arrest and Investigation

The deceased man’s next of kin have been informed. A 55-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

Warwickshire Police are appealing for witnesses. A spokesperson said: “We’re asking for witnesses to come forward as we begin investigating the death of a man in a collision near Salford Priors. Investigations are underway and we’re asking anyone with dashcam footage of the collision, who was driving along that stretch of road or who saw anything to get in touch.”
