Targeted financial support is now available for working households in East Riding who are feeling the squeeze from the ongoing cost of living crisis. The local council is distributing one-off payments of £250 to eligible residents, funded by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) through the Household Support Fund.
Who is Eligible for the £250 Payment?
To qualify for this essential support, applicants must meet three strict conditions set by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council. First, you must be a resident living within the council's tax boundary. Second, you need to be responsible for paying council tax, rent, or both.
The third condition involves your employment and income status. You must be working but not receiving any means-tested benefits such as Universal Credit. Your total gross annual income must be below £28,000 for single households or under £33,000 for other household types, including lone parents.
The council also stipulates that applicants must have savings of less than £1,000 and be experiencing genuine financial difficulty, unable to meet their essential daily living costs.
Priority Groups and How to Apply
The council has identified specific priority groups for this support. Applications will be prioritised from people whose financial circumstances are impacted by additional costs such as energy bills, and those in receipt of a disability benefit with severe health conditions that are worsened by the cold.
These priority health conditions include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or severe asthma, and cardiovascular disease or sickle cell anaemia.
To apply, residents must email evidence of their income and bank accounts to the address provided on the council's website. The council explicitly states that your application will not be processed without this evidence.
This support is designed to help with essential costs including food, energy bills, and other daily necessities, providing a crucial lifeline for those who are working but still struggling to make ends meet.
