Pensioner Admits Hiding Body in Freezer, Denies Murder

A 65-year-old pensioner has admitted to hiding a woman's body in a freezer at a Merseyside flat but has denied murdering her. George Gordon also pleaded not guilty to killing five guinea pigs during his court appearance.

Charges and Pleas

Gordon is accused of murdering Delia McInerney, whose body was reportedly discovered in a freezer at a flat in St Helens in January 2026. While he has pleaded guilty to preventing a lawful burial and obstructing a coroner, he maintains his innocence regarding the murder charge and the animal deaths.

Appearing via videolink from prison at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday, Gordon pleaded not guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to protected animals by killing five guinea pigs.

Previous Admissions

It can now be reported that Gordon had earlier pleaded guilty to preventing a lawful and decent burial of a dead body and obstructing a coroner by concealing the body between April 2023 and January 2026. He also admitted three counts of fraud by false representation and theft, which are said to relate to Ms McInerney.

Gordon, of Gerards Court, St Helens, had denied murder at an earlier hearing.

Tribute to the Victim

Ms McInerney, who would have turned 64 when her body was found, was originally from Anfield, Liverpool. In a tribute released after her death, her sister Rita McInerney described her as “a great artist, a free spirit, really ‘out there’. A rebel. Intelligent with a dynamic personality. Kind, caring and helpful.”

Gordon is due to stand trial on October 12.
